Birthdays, anniversaries and family milestones can arrive heavily. Give yourself permission to change plans, create a ritual, say their name or spend the day quietly. There is no correct way to remember.
It can help to have one sentence ready: “I’m taking today as it comes.” You can leave early, decline advice and choose the people with whom you feel safest being honest.
What to expect
The inaugural group met on 28 August 2026, with circles continuing monthly at Lower Chittering Community Hall. They are run by parents who understand this journey from their own lived experience.
Arrive without needing to introduce your loss at the door. There will be time to settle and understand how the gathering works.
Confidentiality, respect and no unsolicited advice. The purpose is connection, not diagnosis or treatment.
Speak as much or as little as feels right. Listening and silence are complete ways of taking part.
Leave with support contacts and a clear way to reconnect—never pressure to commit before you are ready.

Coffee and snacks are provided. There is no pressure to speak and no expectation to be anywhere other than where you are.

No. There is no expiry date on grief and no point at which a mother should be expected to be ‘over it’. The community is intended to welcome mothers at every stage, whether their loss was weeks or many years ago.
Never. You would be welcome to speak, listen or simply sit with the group. A safe gathering leaves room for silence and lets each mother decide what she wants to share.
No. Mothers Coming Together is being developed as a peer community, not a clinical or crisis service. Gatherings should complement—not replace—professional support when it is needed.
The initial focus is mothers whose adult sons or daughters have died. Every relationship and circumstance is different; there will be no hierarchy of loss and no comparison of grief.
Gatherings are held monthly at Lower Chittering Community Hall on Chittering Valley Road, supporting mothers from Lower Chittering, Chittering, Bindoon, Bullsbrook and across northern Perth.
